Of course, while we're there, I have to look at the rats. They have feeders, of course, but they also have fancy rats...there was just one.
He was a beautiful little dumbo with an all-white body, with an uneven (and so CUTE) patch of greyish black on his face. I've always wanted a rat with those kinds of markings. Needless to say, I wanted to hold him, and he looked awfully big...
I asked one of the clerks how long he'd been at the store alone, and he'd said, "A little over a month." I was floored..poor little thing. So, I opened the enclosure, and here he came, right over to me to be picked up. When I did...you know how rats go limp when you pick them up under their arms, especially for belly kisses? He did just that, and I was able to smooch his belly, then snuggle him. He didn't squirm, didn't do anything, he didn't look or sound sick...he just bruxed a little, and sniffed around. He climbed up to my shoulder/neck and decided to hang out there a while. No fear poo, no nothing, just a happy, well socialized rat. On Carefresh. With what looked like Suebees recipe for food.
My god, did I want him.
But, I did the responsible thing. Hopefully he won't become snake food. But I just can't justify getting an 8th rat.
Tell me I did the right thing! I need to hear it! LOL |
