Don't Buy Every Cute Pet You See Support Group
Okay, I went back into PetSmart today to see if they were still hiring (I had to miss the group interview on Tuesday because of my other job), and they weren't. However, I just couldn't resist the small animal's section. It's like it was calling to me saying "Come here! Look at us! We're cute!".
And boy were they cute! One little rattie imparticular caught my eye. She was a mismarked dumbo girl, and she wasn't jittery at all when I approached the cage. In fact, she came up to the side and stared at me!!! Ugh! She was adorable, looked like my Caprica (except for the ears), and seemed very tame and friendly for a pet store rat. I seriously had to get all my strength to not adopt her, especially after I lost yet another breeder rat I'd been planning on adopting this week (for those of you keeping track, that's now TWO breeder ratties I've lost at last minute)! My head kept going "you're planning for two, but you're only gettting one! You can get this girl and get her through her quarantine before the other girl comes home and needs to go through quarantine! It's perfect!". However, I'm having issues with one of my girls and lumps (not tumors, thank goodness!), and she's having surgery next week, and I know I'll be too distracted by her to pay enough attention to a new rattie right now AND I've sworn to myself NO MORE PET STORE RATTIES unless I can afford to spay them right away... which I can't right now.
BUT! It was a good thing that I went over there! While I was there I saw a russian dwarf hamster start fighting with a littler hammy. I've had dwarfs who lived together before, and know what good and bad fighting is. This started out as good fighting, but then it turned to bad fighting. The big one was clearly targetting the runt, and I know that's not good! Then I saw that the runt had a bloody foot and it looked like she was missing a toe. I flagged down the smanimals girl, and she removed her immidiately. It then took everything I had in me not to say "I'll take her!".
So, yes, I came home feeling a bit empty without a pet, but knowing I was doing the right thing! So, yay for me!
How are you all doing this week??
